A ‘European Language Label’ was awarded to Griffeen Valley Educate Together NS recently for the linguistic achievements of their Junior Infants class. This class is multicultural, with parents from France, India, Spain and China, and all students undertook all of their tuition through Irish, while also learning four languages.
Class teacher, Susan Nic Réamoinn, assembled a language team of parents and teachers, and the teaching of languages was undertaken primarily through drama and singing.
Susan contends the students are incredibly proud of the phrases they can speak in each of the languages, and believes the positive approach to language learning enabled the children to acquire the languages easily.
Below is a video of Susan and the children at work in the classroom.
