Gradam Shean-Nós Cois Life

Gradam Shean-Nós Cois Life will be awarded to Johnny Mháirtín Learaí Mac Donnchadha at a special event on 5 April 2014 as a part of Fhéile Sean-Nós Cois Life.


Féile Sean-Nós Cois Life takes place annually in Dublin City and celebrates the Gaeltacht sean-nós tradition. The best of sean-nós singers, dancers and musicians attend the popular festival to teach workshops and take part in informal music sessions.

This year’s festival will run from 4-6 April 2014 and special guests will include Ógie Ó Céilleachair from An Rinn in Co Waterford; Bernie Ní Dhuibhir from Donegal; dancer Marian Ní Chonghaile from Conamara; Cait Nic Suibhne from Mayo; singer and musician Síle Denvir from the group Líadan; Suzanne Ní Ghallchóir and Pól Phadaí Dubh Ó Gallachóir from Donegal as well as Éamonn de Barra from Dublin.

On Saturday, 5 April, Gradam Shean-Nós Cois Life will be awarded to Johnny Mháirtín Learaí Mac Donnchadha from Conamara. Gradam Shean-Nós Cois Life is awarded to a person who is widely recognised for his/her hard work in enriching indigenous singing over the years.

Johnny Mháirtín is a well-known sean-nós singer and can be heard regularly at festivals nationwide. He is a passionate singer who encourages young sean-nós singers as they learn the craft. Gradam Shean Nós Cois Life is recognition for his efforts to promote the traditions of the Iorras Aithneach region.

An Gradam will be awarded in the Teachers’ Club on Parnell Square ar 9.00pm.
