Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge has been working away diligently for the past few months, on a new version of the website Gaelport.com. The new site will be launched officially on Thursday 12th of March in Áras na Comhdhála, Dublin 2.
The new version of Gaelport.com, will be both attractive and interactive, and a special emphasis will be placed on having the very latest news from the Irish language sector available on the site. News pieces will be updated regularly each day.
Gaelport.com is the main Irish language website, over 1.2 million people visited the site last year, and An Chomdháil hope this figure will increase again this year with the launch of the new site. Among the many services available on Gaelport.com, is a wonderfully useful service, known as 'From The Papers'. Each day, articles relating to the Irish language sector which appear in the Irish national and regional papers are distributed to those registered for the service.
News and events from the Irish language sector are updated daily, and the most recent stories are available on the Gaelport.com homepage, or alternatively as an RSS Feed. A calendar of events is also available on the site, with details of all events being held in the coming weeks. Current vacancies in the Irish language sector are advertised under the employment section. An Chomhdháil's bilingual electronic newsletter, EOLAS, is distributed fortnightly, and contains major news stories, events, vacancies, training courses, publications and information relating to other minority languages.
Kevin De Barra, Marketing and Communications Manager of Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge commented; 'Readers of EOLAS filled in a questionnaire late last year, which gave us many fresh ideas of what our readers would like to see on the site and in the newsletters. Although there will be many new features to the site, readers' favourites such as 'From The Papers' and 'EOLAS' will remain, albeit in a cleaner, crisper format. It is wonderful that there is such a demand for the information services provided by An Chomhdháil, and that Gaelport.com is now recognised as the main Irish language website.'
