Conradh na Gaeilge

Conradh na Gaeilge is the main voluntary community organisation that promotes the Irish language in Ireland and abroad.  Its main aim is to reinstate the Irish language as the common tongue of Ireland. Since its foundation on 31 July 1893 members of the Conradh have been actively promoting Irish in every aspect of life in Ireland, from legal and educational affairs to the development of new media and services through Irish.

Conradh na Gaeilge has 200 branches and the members of these branches work hard to promote the use of Irish within their own communities. 5 projects of Conradh na Gaeilge in Limerick, Mayo, Loughrea, Ennis and Galway help the work and development of the local branches and the head office in Dublin provides support to all of Conradh na Gaeilge’s members, be they individual or branch members.

Members of the Conradh are to forefront of campaigns to realise and strengthen language rights for the Irish-speaking community and its work involves every aspect of everyday life.

The Irish Dancing Commission, An tOireachtas, (National Irish Language festival); Ógras (Youth organization of Conradh na Gaeilge); and Seachtain na Gaeilge (Internation Irish Language Festival) come under and work with Conradh na Gaeilge to promote the Irish Language at home and abroad.

Offices of Conradh na Gaeilge are to be found in several locations including; Nenagh, Dublin, Cork, Dundalk and Limerick. Conradh na Gaeilge also has a social club (Club Árus na nGael) on 45 Dominick St. Galway as well as a meeting point on 6 Harcourt St. Dublin. There is also a book shop located at the Dublin branch that sells a wide collection of Irish books.
