New Irish language third level institution

Gaelchultúr Teoranta recently announced the company has achieved the status of a third-level institution.

The new institute will be known as Coláiste na hÉireann and will launch its first course, a post-graduate diploma in translation (Dioplóma Iarchéime san Aistriúchán) in September. The postgraduate diploma will be delivered as a level 9 NFQ course and will run for three semesters.

The Dioplóma Iarchéime san Aistriúchán programme is aimed at those who already have a good standard of Irish, but who wish to learn translation skills or to enhance the skills they already have. It is also ideal for those who work through Irish on a daily basis – teachers and journalists, for example – who wish to improve their standard of written Irish.

Commercial Director of Gaelchultúr Teoranta, Darren Ó Rodaigh, commented: “It has taken many years to achieve this status.  Gaelchultúr has liaised with Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) for almost five years.  Now that we have achieved status as a third-level institute, we can enhance and develop the type of courses we can deliver.  Coláiste na hÉireann can deliver courses at every level of the National Framework of Qualifications.  In the future, we are looking towards international opportunities and developing links with other institutions around the world”.
