Win tickets to Oireachtas na Samhna!

This week two tickets to Oireachtas na Samhna events in The Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney can be won by one lucky subscriber to the Eolas e-zine.

This year’s Oireachtas na Samhna will take place in Killarney, Co. Kerry from Wednesday 27th - Sunday 31st October 2010.

Events include featuring performances, demonstrations, drama, storytelling, singing and many sean-nós dancing competitions for both children and adults. 

Oireachtas na Samhna is a major event for everyone to enjoy but in particular those from Gaeltacht communities and Irish speakers. For many years now this all Irish language cultural event is going from strength to strength.

This event has a wonderful social aspect attached to it for many years it gives individuals from all over Ireland and annual visitors from abroad the chance to meet up in a social environment while they enjoy the competitions and various events all through the medium of the Irish language.

Oireachtas na Samhna hosts many competitions for both young and old to enjoy. Events include sean-nós dancing and singing competitions at various levels, dreas cainte, agallaimh Beirte, lúibíní, a form of Gaelic song where “two or more performers are set against each other or collaborate together in a bout of semi-spontaneous composition.

The main competition which is held on the Saturday, Corn Uí Riada is the ultimate sean-nós singing competition in the country and the competition offers the cream of sean-nós singing. While earlier in the evening the All-Ireland sean-nós dancing champion is crowned.
Crowds also get to enjoy lively traditional music while at Club na Féile Kerry box player Pádraig Ó Sé and his friends play into the early hours of the morning.
