With towns and communities across the country celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge this week, a new series called Scéal na Gaeilge to be aired on TG4 will examine the hisoriy of the language starting on St Patrick’s Day.

Written and presented by Alan Titley, ‘Scéal na Gaeilge’ illustrates the history of the Irish language from the beginning of time through to the present with the use of animation, green screen and historic location filming.

The two-part series reveals myths and interesting historic tales in a light and humorous way which draws the viewer into the heart of the subject.

Series producer Ciarán Ó Coifigh said that “the history of the Irish Language is the history of Ireland” and that ‘Scéal na Gaeilge’ tracks the history of Irish legends such as Cú Culainn, St Patrick, Brian Ború, Macbeth and Dónal Ó Conaill, Irish being the language spoken by all of them.

Scéal na Gaeilge will air on TG4 on March 17th and 19th at 20.30.
