New Irish language arts series comes to BBC2 Northern Ireland

‘Cuisle’, a new platform for music and literature through Irish, will begin on BBC Northern Ireland next week.

In this new series, which is situated in Cultúrlann Mac Adam Ó Fiaich, based in the Gaeltacht quarters in Belfast, presenters Gráinne Holland and Éamonn Ó hAdhmaill will welcome a range of traditional and modern musicians and well as artists, poets and writers.

With echoes from similar series such as ‘Other Voices’ and ‘Later..with Jools Holland’, ‘Cuisle’ will not only showcase discuss the finest music and art but artists will have the opportunity to show that they have Irish and use the language in their work.

Headline acts include new trad supergroup Weeping Willow, Belfast’s own reggae band Bréag, KAN who are made up of four of the finest, most influential artists of the 21st century traditional music scene, Dublin rockers The Dirty 9’s, popular Scottish outfit Dàimh and one of the most talked about young breakthrough bands – The Bonny Men. New and more established poets will be invited to read some of their work along with other interesting acts.

Presenter Éamonn Ó hAdhmaill will also go out and about to explore the broader landscape of the Gaeltacht Quarter and beyond.

‘Cuisle’ is an Imagine Media production for BBC2 Northern Ireland. The series is set to begin on Monday, 13 May at 10pm.
