Réalta Nua Raidió ar an bhFód!

A new Radio Star is born!

D'fhógair An Coiste Forbartha Gaeilge de chuid Choimisiún Craolacháin na hÉireann (BCI)  le déanaí gur bhuaigh Meadhbh Ní Eadhra Comórtas Réalta DJ 2007.  Bhí Meadhbh ag déanamh ionadaíocht ar son Today FM. Is í an phríomhdhuais a ghabhann leis an gcomórtas seo na deis trí seachtaine déag a chaitheamh ag obair le craoltóir náisiúnta.

Moladh iarratas Mheadbh as an ardchaighdeán Gaeilge a bhí ann, a bhí ar chaighdeán craoltóireachta i dteannta leis an tuiscint a bhí aici ar chláir raidió, a bhí le tabhairt faoi deara i leagan amach an chláir.

Labhair Cogar le Meadhbh le déanaí agus chuireamar cúpla ceist uirthi!

Conas a mhothaíonn tú tar éis an bhua?

Iontach sásta! Tá mé ag tnúth go mór le dul go Today FM anois!

Ar bhain sé geit asat nuair a fuair tú amach gur bhuaigh tú?

Bhain sé geit mhór asam, mar bhí a fhios agam go raibh a lán daoine eile san iomaíocht don duais. I ndiaidh dom babhta Today FM a bhuachan, bhí áthas orm, ach ansin nuair a bhuaigh mé an Craobh Náisiúnta ní fhéadfainn é a chreidiúint!

Nuair a bronnadh Réalt DJ ort, moladh an t-iarratas a rinne tú as an ardchaighdeán a bhain leis.  Cén sort iarratas a bhí i gceist agat?

Bhí clár beo agam a mhair 20 nóiméad. Theastaigh uaim clár beo a dhéanamh mar tá níos mó spraoi agus fuinneamh ag baint leis. Bhí an clár go léir trí Ghaeilge agus bhí meascán de cheol, agallaimh, chaint agus nuacht le cloisteáil air. Rinne mé iarracht éagsúlacht a chur sa chlár agus spéis a spreagadh sa lucht éisteachta.

An raibh taithí agat cheana féin leis an gcraoltóireacht?

Tá mé sa chéad bhliain san ollscoil agus d'éirigh liom mo chlár féin a fháil ar Flirt FM, Raidió na hOllscoile anseo i nGaillimh, i Mí Dheireadh Fómhair. Bíonn an clár ar siúl gach seachtain agus bainim an-sult ar fad as. Lasmuigh de sin, ní raibh taithí ar bith agam le cúrsaí raidió.

Dar leat cad é an ghné is deacra a bhaineann leis an gcraoltóireacht raidió?

Níl a fhios agam, is dócha gurb é an rud is deacra ná go gcaithfidh tú an stiúideo a fhágáil nuair atá do chlár thart!

An bhfuil tú ag súil leis an taithí craoltóireachta? Cathain a bheidh tú ag tosú?

Tá mé ag súil go mór leis! Sílim go mbeidh mé ag tosú le Today FM i Mí Bealtaine, beidh mé críochnaithe san ollscoil ag deireadh Mí Aibreáin agus caithfidh mé a rá go bhfuil sceitimíní an domhain orm! Beidh sé aisteach a bheith i mBaile Átha Cliath don samhradh, ach is deis iontach í seo dom agus tá sé i gceist agam leas a bhaint aisti gan amhras!

Cén saghas clár raidió is mó a bhfuil spéis agat ann? Cén fáth

Is breá liom gach cineál clár : cláir faisnéise, cláir ceoil, cláir spóirt, cúrsaí reatha, cláir cainte. Tá spéis agam i réimse leathan rudaí agus má tá clár maith ar an raidió, éisteoidh mé leis, is cuma cad faoi atá sé.

Tá Gaeilge den scoth agat gan amhras, an cainteoir dúchais tú?

Ní cainteoir dúchais mé, d'fhoghlaim mé mo chuid Gaeilge nuair a bhí mé ag freastal ar Ghaelscoil i mBaile Átha Cliath agus tá an t-ádh liom gur éirigh liom dul i dtaithí ar an nGaeilge gan mórán stró. Tá an-dúil ar fad agam inti!

The winner of the Réalt DJ 2007 competition, an Irish Language Development Committee of The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland  was announced  -  Meadhbh Ní Eadhra, representing Today FM, was this year's competition winner. The top prize for the 2007 competition offers Meadhbh the opportunity to gain thirteen weeks work experience with the national broadcaster.

Meadhbh's competition entry was praised in the adjudication process for the standard of Irish which was considered of broadcast quality, together with an understanding of radio programming, which was reflected in the structure of the programme.

Cogar
spoke to Meadhbh recently and asked her a few questions

How do you feel after the win?

I'm delighted! I am really looking forward to going to Today FM now!

Did it surprise you when you found out that you won?

I did get a fright as I knew that there were a lot of other people competing for the prize.  After winning the Today FM round I was delighted but when I won the national title I could hardly believe it.

When you were awarded the title of Réalt DJ your application was praised for the high standard it set.  Tell me about your application.

The programme was a live one which lasted for 20 minutes.  I wanted to make a live programme as they are more fun and energetic.  The programme was in Irish and it had a mix of music, interviews, talk and news .  I made an effort to make the programme as diverse as possible and to inspire the audience.

Did you already have experience with broadcasting?

I'm in my first year in University and I succeeded in getting my own programme on Flirt Fm, the University Radio station here in Galway in October.  The programme airs every week and I really enjoy it.  Other than that I did not have any experience in Radio.

In your opinion, what is the most difficult aspect of radio broadcasting?

I don't know, I suppose the most difficult aspect is leaving the studio when the programme is over.

Are you looking forward to your work experience in Radio?  When are you starting?

I'm really looking forward to it! I hope to start with Today FM in May and I will be finished in University at the end of April and I have to say I am really nervous!  It will be strange to be in Dublin for the summer but it is a  great chance for me and I am going to give it a shot anyway!

What type of radio progamme are you most interested in? Why?

I love every type of programme: documentaries, music programmes, sport, current affairs, talk shows.  I am interested in a wide range of issues and if there is a good programme on the radio I will listen to it, whatever it is about.

You obviously have great Irish, are you a native speaker?

Im not, I learned my Irish when I attended a Gaelscoil in Dublin and I was very lucky to acquire the language without any difficulty.  I really love it!

In The Name of the Fada agus scéalta eile Des Bishop!

In the Name of the Fada and other Des Bishop Stories!

Fillfidh an seanchaí agus fuirseoir Des Bishop ar ais ar scáileáin teilifíse an tseachtain seo leis an tsraith nua In the Name of the Fada. Seo an tríú sraith atá ag Des a dhíríonn ar ghné áirithe den saol imeallach in Éirinn.  Roimhe seo dhírigh sé ar choinníollacha oibre agus saol an duine atá ag maireachtáil ar íosphá sa chlár 'The Des Bishop Work Experience' agus thug sé ar spreagadh agus múnlú fuirseoirí nua ó phobail faoi mhíbhuntáiste sa tsraith 'Joy in The Hood'. Cé go raibh ábhar na gclár sin tromchúiseach go leor, bhí  an greann ann chomh maith agus bheifí ag súil leis an ngreann agus an spraoi chéanna sa tsraith nua.

Anois sa chlár 'In the Name of the Fada' cuireann sé dúshlán eile roimhe féin nuair a shocraíonn sé bogadh go Tír an Fhia i nGaeltacht Chonamara agus an Ghaeilge a fhoghlaim ann. Is as Meiriceá ó dhúchas Des agus níor fhoghlaim sé an Ghaeilge riamh roimhe seo cé go raibh spéis aige inti.  Chaith sé bliain ann tumtha i saol na nGaeltachta, bhí sé ina chónaí le clann Gaeltachta agus bhíodh sé ag imirt caide le daoine ón gceantar agus d'fhreastail sé ar ranganna sa scoil áitiúil.

Dá thoradh  an eispéiris  ar fad chum sé seó grinn nua 'Tongues' atá ar chamchuairt na tíre seo faoi láthair.  Is léir gur éirigh le Des an sprioc a bhaint amach agus tá sé aitheanta  mar fhuirseoir Gaeilge anois.  Beidh Des mar aoi speisialta ag an ócáid Sult a bheith ar siúl in Vicar St mar chuid lárnach de Sheachtain na Gaeilge an Déardaoin seo.

Gan amhras spreagfaidh scéal Des daoine eile chun an Ghaeilge a fhoghlaim agus a labhairt agus gach seans go gcuirfidh daoine tuilleadh spéise sa Ghaeltacht freisin.

Tosóidh an tsraith seo Déardaoin, 13 Márta, ag 10.15i.n. ar RTÉ a hAon. Is féidir ticéid do Chlub Sult a fhail ó www.ticketmaster.ie

The storyteller and comedian Des Bishop returns to television screens this week with the new series 'In the Name of the Fada'. This is the third series made by Des which looks at certain marginal aspects of life in Ireland.  Before this in 'The Des Bishop work Experience' he concentrated on working conditions and the life of those living on the minimum wage and he inspired and helped new comedians from disadvantaged communities in the series 'Joy in the Hood'.  Despite the fact that the subject matter of the programmes was of a serious nature they were humorous and it is hoped the series will be equally entertaining and funny.

Now in the programme 'In the name of the Fada' he challenges himself again when he decides to move to Tír an Fhia in the Connemara Gaeltacht to learn Irish,  Originally from America, Des never learned Irish in school.  He spent one year immersed in Gaeltacht life, living with a Gaeltacht family, playing football with local people and attending classes in the local school.

His new show 'Tongues'  which is on tour across the country was created as a result of his experience. It's clear that Des achieved his goal and he is now recognised as an Irish language comedian.  Des will appear as a special guest at Sult which takes place in Vicar Street this Thursday as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge.

Without a shadow of a doubt Des's story will inspire others to learn Irish and to speak it as well as encouraging people to have an interest in the Gaeltacht as well.

The series will commence on Thursday 13 March at 10.15 pm on RTÉ 1.  Tickets for Club Sult can be go on http://www.ticketmaster.ie

Príomhfheidhmeannach Raidió Idirlíon
Raidió Idirlíon

Bunaíodh Raidió Idirlíon i  mí Lúnasa 2006 chun an Ghaeilge agus an ceol Éireannach a spreagadh. Is eagraíocht dheonach í. Tá Raidió Idirlíon lonnaithe i mBrí Chualann, Co. Chill Mhantáin

Cé chomh fada is atá tú ag craoladh i nGaeilge? 18 mhí

How long are you broadcasting in Irish? 18 months

Céard é an difríocht is mó dar leat idir craoladh i nGaeilge agus i mBéarla?

Sílim nach bhfuil mórán difríochta ar an idirlíon. Ag an am céanna, ?sé an manna atá againne ná "Níos mó ceoil, níos lú bladair."

Cé hé nó hí an t-aoi is mó a bhfuil fonn ort agallamh a chuir air nó uirthi i nGaeilge

Kevin Myers nó duine ar bith eile atá glan in aghaidh na Gaeilge mar ní bheadh siad in ann focal a rá. Táim ag magadh! Tá siad go léir fíorthábhachtach i saol na tíre agus tá an-mheas agam ar a gcuid tuairimí.

Céard é an clár raidió is fearr leatsa?

Adhmhaidin ar R na G.

Cérbh é nó í an t-aoi is fearr a bhí ar do chlár raidió?

Aoi? Ní raibh aoi ann fós ach tá cúpla "station IDs" déanta ag ceoltóirí.

Céard é spreagadh is mó duitse agus tú i mbun craolta?

An Ghaeilge agus ceol Éireannach a chur chun cinn.

Cad iad na buntáistí agus na míbhuntáistí is mó a ghabhann le craoltóireacht thar an Idirlíon?

Buntáistí. Tá sé níos saoire. Is féidir leat craoladh 24/7 gan daoine a bheith i láthair. Níl do lucht éisteachta lonnaithe i mbaile nó i gcontae nó i dtírín amháin. Is iad na míbhuntáistí ná nach bhfuil sé chomh éasca do dhaoine do stáisiún a aimsiú. Níl sé le fáil go coitianta fós ar ghnáthraidiónna.

Chief Executive Raidió Idirlíon
Raidió Idirlíon

Raidió Idirlíon was foinded in August 2006 to promote the Irish language and Irish music.  It's a voluntary organisation.  Raidió Idirlíon is situated in Wicklow.

How long are you broadcasting in Irish? 18 months

What is the biggest difference, do you think, between broadcasting in Irish and in English?

I don't think there is a great difference but, at the same time, our motto is "More music less blather."

Who is the guest you would most like to interview in Irish?

Kevin Myers or anyone who is completely against Irish as they would not be able to say anything! I?m joking! They are very important in Ireland today and I respect their opinions.

What is your favourite radio programme?

Adhmhaidin on R na G.

Who was the best guest you ever had on your programme?

Never had guests although a few musicians have done "station IDs" for us.

What is your greatest inspiration while you are broadcasting?

To promote Irish music and the Irish language.

What are the greatest advantage and disadvantages of broadcasting over the internet?

Advantages: It is cheaper. You can broadcast 24/7 without anyone there. Your audience isn't restricted to a town, county or little country. The disadvantages are that it is not as easy for people to find your station. And internet radio isn't really available yet on ordinary radios sets.

Tá Splanc ann d'aon duine ar spéis leo an teanga. Tabharfaidh an clár deis d'éisteoirí Newstalk éisteacht leis na scéalta is déanaí trí mheán na Gaeilge. Pléifidh an clár gach rud ó chúrsaí ceoil go cúrsaí reatha agus ó chúrsaí spóirt go himeachtaí sna contaetha ar fad. Cruthaímid, mar dhaoine ar spéis linn an teanga, gur féidir clár Gaeilge idirghníomhach, nua-aimseartha agus tarraingteach a dhéanamh.

Splanc ar Newstalk gach Aoine idir 22.00- 00.00

For years Gaeilgeoirí around the country have debated this age-old dilemma. Which dialect is the truest form of the Irish language, which is the most beautiful, the most musical, the most aurally pleasing? Is it Munster, Connacht, Ulster or Leinster?

Splanc, Newstalk 106-108 fm's weekly Irish language programme, is inviting listeners from all over the country to represent their canúint in a winner-takes-all Craobh na gCanúintí. During Seachtain na Gaeilge, the show's presenter Daragh O' Tuama will be inviting speakers of all dialects to come on air and represent their own canúint. The final will take place during Seachtain na Gaeilge on March 14th.

Listeners will be invited to email splanc@newstalk.ie or text or call during the show. They can nominate themselves, or a friend to take part. Listeners will be given a short piece to read, and will also have the opportunity to present their own reasons as to why their canúint is the greatest.

Splanc airs on Newstalk every Friday between 22.00 - 00.00

Raidió Idirlíon Ag Tnúth Go Mór le Ceol 08

Raidió Idirlíon Looking forward to Ceol 08

Agus muid go léir ag réiteach do Sheachtain na Gaeilge agus seoladh Ceol 08 beidh súil siar á chaitheamh ag Raidió Idirlíon (http://www.rid.ie) ar bhuaicphointí na ndlúthdhioscaí eisithe go dtí seo.

"Tá an-mheas agam ar an obair atá déanta ag foireann Sheachtain na Gaeilge ar son na Gaeilge agus cheoltóirí na hÉireann ón gcéad dlúthdhiosca Ceol 05," a dúirt Seán Ó Maoldúin, Príomhfheidhmeannach Raidió Idirlíon. "Agus leis na laethanta ag éirí níos faide agus an t-earrach ag teach nach breá an t-am é a bheith ag éisteacht leis na hamhráin iontacha ó Ceol 05, Ceol 06 agus Ceol 07?"

"Nuair a bhunaigh mé Raidió Idirlíon bhí sé i gcónaí ar intinn agam an Ghaeilge agus ceol Éireannach a chur chun cinn. Agus bhí ionadh orm nuair a fuair mé amach an méad ceoltóirí a chasann i nGaeilge. Tá na grúpaí cáiliúla ann ar ndóigh: Kíla agus Bréag," a dúirt Ó Maoldúin.

As we prepare for Seachtain na Gaeilge and the launch of Ceol 08 Raidió Idirlíon (http://www.rid.ie) will be looking back at the highlights of Seachtain na Gaeilge CDs up to this point.

"I have great admiration for the work done by the SnaG team on behalf of Irish music and the Irish language since Ceol 05 was first issued, said Seán Ó Maoldúin, head of Raidió Idirlíon. "And now with the days getting longer and spring on the way, what better time to sit back and listen to the brilliant music on Ceol 05, Ceol 06 and Ceol 07"

"When I started Raidió Idirlíon it was always my intention to promote Irish music and the Irish language. But I was amazed at the amount of musicians recording in Irish. There are the famous groups such as Kíla and Bréag, of course," said Ó Maoldúin.
