Campaign for Young Peoples Radio station Begins

Bhuail grúpa oibre atá ag iarraidh stáisiún raidió don aos óg a bhunadh le chéile don chéad uair an Satharn seo chaite.
Is í an sprioc atá ag an ngrúpa ná stáisiún raidío Gaeilge a chur ar fáil ar fud na tíre don aos óg.
Daoine óga fuinneamhacha ar fad atá sa ghrúpa oibre seo agus bhí cuid acu ag déanamh ionadaíocht ar son cumainn Gaeilge atá lonnaithe ar fud na tíre.

Mar a tuariscíodh san eagrán deireanach de Cogar bunaíodh an grúpa oibre i ndiaidh seimineár an Oireachtais nuair a glacadh go forleathan go raibh gá lena leithéid de sheirbhís agus go raibh bearna sa mhargadh faoi láthair.

Ag an gcruinniú labhair aoi-chainteoir ó earnáil an raidió digiteach, Dusty Rhodes mar gheall ar an dteicneolaíocht is nua-aimseartha atá ar fáil anois agus mhol sé go láidir an raidió digiteach in Éirinn mar ardán amach anseo.

Beidh an chéad chruinniú eile ar siúl tar éis na Nollag agus más mian leat páirt a ghlacadh sa bhfeachtas (cibé áit sa tír ina bhfuil tú lonnaithe) nó chun tuilleadh eolais a fhail déan teagmháil le  Julian de Spáinn, Ard-Rúnaí, Conradh na Gaeilge, Teil. 01-4757401 nó julian@cnag.ie

The working group who seek to establish a radio station for young people met together for the first time last Saturday.
The group aims to establish an Irish language radio station for young people which would be available countrywide.  The group is made of enthusiastic young people, some of whom represent Irish language associations from across the country.

As was reported in the last edition of Cogar this working group was founded after the Oireachtas seminar where it was widely accepted
that there was a need for such a service and that a niche exists in the market at the moment.

At the meeting, a specialist speaker fron the digital radio sector, Dusty Rhodes spoke about the latest technology and
he strongly proposed the case for the future of digital radio in Ireland.

The next meeting of the working group will take place after Christmas and if you wish to play a part in the campaign (wherever you are located in the country) or wish to find out more abot it contact Julian de Spáinn, Ard-Rúnaí, Conradh na Gaeilge, Teil. 01-4757401 nó julian@cnag.ie

Ceardlann scríbhneoireachta teilifíse

Television Writing Workshop

I Márta 2008 craolfaidh TG4 agus Dearg Films ceithre dhráma don teilifís bheo. Thar ceithre oíche craolfar na ceithre script beo, gach ceann acu ag tarlú ar an láthair céanna (Seomra a Sé) i Stiúideo Solas i gConamara.

Toisc an bheocht a bhaineann leis an gcur i láthair seo agus an láthair srianta, tá níos mó i gcoitinne ag teilifís bheo leis an amharclann ná leis an teilifís. Tráth dá raibh ba í seo an cineál dráma is coitianta ar an teilifís ach anois is annamh a fheictear í, ní amháin toisc na deacrachtaí a bhaineann le grúpa aisteoirí agus cúntóirí stáitse a chomhordú ach de bharr na teicneoirí agus na ceamaraí a caithfear a chur san áireamh chomh maith.

[Ar Lean]

TG4 and Dearg Films will produce four nights of live television drama in March 2008. Over the course of four nights, four scripts, all taking place in a hotel room (Seomra a Sé) will be broadcast live from Solas Studios in Conamara.

Owing to the live nature of the performance and the confined setting, live television drama owes as much to the theatrical tradition as it does to television. Once the most popular form of television drama, it has become a rarity because of the difficulty in co-ordinating not only a group of actors and stage-hands but a studio full of cameras and technicians.

Cuireann Mí na Nollag scléip agus spraoi i gcuimhne dom i gconaí.  Bíonn roinnt feiltí ann, cuid dóibh de bhunadh traidisiúnta agus ársa iad,  cosúil leis an ngrianstad agus ar ndóigh tháinig forbairt ar cuid dóibh san aois comhaimseartha, tagraím ar ndóigh do chóisir na Nollag!

December for me is always a month of fun and festivities.  So many events take place during this month, some of them traditional and ancient like the Winter Solstice and of course those events which developed in the modern age, I refer of course to the Christmas party!

An Grianstad: Winter Solstice

Ar an 21 Nollaig ag breacadh an lae lonraíonn an ghrian síos an phasáiste i Sí an Bhrú, i mBrú na Bóinne, i gCo. na Mí chun an seomra sa thuama pasáiste a chur ar lasadh.

On the 21st of December at daybreak the sun shines down the passage in Newgrange County Meath lighting up the chamber in the passage tomb.

Cóisir na Nollag: The Christmas Party

ragairne: revelling
ag dul ar ragairne: going out for the night
oíche shúgach: a great night of fun

Nua gach bídh is sean gach dí:
Freshness in all food and age in all drink!

D'imigh an t-im tríd an chálcheanann air:
his plans misfired!

Lá an dreoilín:

Go gcaithe tú an Nollaig:
A christmas greeting for your neighbours

Go mbeirimid beo ar an am seo arís- ráiteas oiriúnach ar Oíche Cinn bhliana-

That we may be alive this time next year-a handy saying for New Years Eve

Sneachta

Leasú seacht mblian brúcht mhaith sneachta
A good fall of snow is fertilizer for seven years!

Gemma Ní Chionnaith

Gemma Ní Chionnaith

Cad is ainm duitse agus cárb as thú cé leis a bhfuil tú ag craoladh?

Gemma Ní Chionnaith, Indreabhán i gCo. Na Gaillimhe, RTÉ Radio na Gaeltachta.

Cé chomh fada is atá tú ag craoladh i nGaeilge?

Le beagnach trí bliana

Céard é an difríocht is mó dar leat idir craoladh i nGaeilge agus i mBéarla?

Tá an tádh orm le Géill Slí, tá go leor foghlaimeoirí Gaeilge ag
éisteacht le mo chlár, mar gheall go bhfuil an meascán ann idir
láithriú i nGaeilge agus ceol i mBéarla agus Gaeilge.
Is deas an rud  go bhfuil mé ag tacú leo ar bhealach beag éigin

Cé hé nó hí an aoi is mó a bhfuil fonn ort agallamh a chuir air nó uirthi i nGaeilge?

Bono, sílim go mbeadh Bono suimiúl agus go mbeadh sé
thar a bheith feiliúncach os rud é gur clár ceol atá ann!

Céard é an clár raidió is fearr leatsa?

An Taobh Tuathail. Bíonn Cian Ó Ciabháin ag cur an Taobh Tuathail i  láthair idir a 23.00 agus 01.00 ar Raidió na Gaeltachta agus bíonn mé ag éisteacht leis ar  mo bhealach abhaile tar éis dom Géill Slí a chríochnú.

Cérbh é nó í an aoi is fearr a bhí ar do chlár raidió?

Des Bishop, bhí sé chomh suimiúl, tá níos mó meas agam anois air ná mar a bhí ariamh de bharr an sár-obair atá deanta aige don Ghaeilge, agus an iarracht atá déanta aige í a fhoghlaim.

Céard é an spreagadh is mó duitse agus tú i mbun craoladh?

Na héisteoirí, bíonn spreagadh agam i gcónaí ó na teachtaireactaí a
thagann isteach ó mo chuid éisteoirí, bíonn said seasta ag cuir r-phoist
agus teachtaireachtaí téacs isteach chugam agus is iontach an spreagadh é an teaghmháil sin.

Bíonn Gemma Ní Chionnaith le cloisteáil ar Ghéill Slí,
clár ceoil agus cainte do dhaoine óga, ar RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta ó Máirt go Aoine, 21.00-23.00.  Chomh maith leis sin, bíonn sí ag cur Glas Vegas, seó tallainne nua, i láthair ar TG4, gach Domhnach ag 20.30.

What's your name, where are you from and who are you broadcasting with?

Gemma Ní Chionnaith, Indreabhán in County Galway, and I am a presenter with RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.

How long are you broadcasting in Irish?

Almost three years.

What is the biggest difference, do you think, between broadcasting in Irish and in English?

I'm very lucky with Géill Slí, many people learning Irish listen to my programme, because of the variety of it being presented in Irish, and the music being in either English or Irish.  It is nice to think that I am helping them in some small way.

Who is the guest you would most like to interview in Irish?

Bono, I think it would be very interesting to interview Bono,
and he would be a perfect candidate as it is a music programme!

What is your favourite radio programme?

An Taobh Tuathail. Cian Ó Ciabháin presents An Taobh Tuathail
on RTÉ Radio Na Gaeltachta, between 23.00 and 01.00,
and I listen to it on my way home after finishing Géill Slí.

Who was the best guest you ever had on your programme?

Des Bishop, he is very interesting, and I have a even more respect for him now than ever before, as a result of the great work he has done for the Irish language, and his efforts to learn it.

What is your greatest inspiration while you are broadcasting?

The listeners, there is always inspiration in the messages they send in.
My listeners regularly e-mail or text the show, and I find great inspiration in this contact!

Gemma Ní Chionnaith can be heard on Géill Slí, a music and chat show for young people on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, from Tuesday to Friday, 21.00 -23.00. As well as that, Gemma presents Glas Vegas, a talent show on TG4, every Sunday at 20.30
