Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge

European Certificate in Irish

Agus ranganna Gaeilge ag tosú arís an mhí seo ar fud na tíre ,is léir go bhfuil dea-rúin na hathbhliana mar phríomhchloch ar phaidrín gach duine agus tá an chuma ar an scéal go bhfuil níos mó ranganna ar fáil anois ná riamh agus go bhfuil rogha leathan ar fáil idir bhunleibhéal agus ardleibhéal.

Tá sé le tabhairt faoi deara i mbliana chomh maith go bhfuil ranganna á dtairiscint anois atá ábhartha nó oiriúnach do Theastas Eorpach na Gaeilge: Sea, is féidir leat cáilíocht a bhaint amach sa Ghaeilge gan freastal ar Ollscoil nó ar institiúid tríú leibhéal is cuma cén áit sa tír ina bhfuil tú.

Is é TEG an chéad chóras teastasaithe d'fhoghlaimeoirí fásta Gaeilge a bhfuil baint aige le córas scrúduithe na Comhairle Eorpaí. Tá forbairt déanta ar a leithéid de chóras le haghaidh fhormhór na dteangacha eile san Eoraip cheana.

Tá leibhéil éagsúla TEG bunaithe ar Chomhchreat Tagartha na hEorpa um Theangacha: Foghlaim, Teagasc agus Measúnú.
Cabhraíonn an córas seo leis na foghlaimeoirí a gcuid staidéir a phleanáil agus aitheantas a fháil as an dul chun cinn
atá déanta acu. Buntáiste eile a bhaineann leis an gcóras seo ná go dtugann sé cruthúnas d'fhostóirí maidir le cumas teanga agus iad ag roghnú iarrthóirí do phoist nó d'ardú céime. Déanann Ionad na dTeangacha in Ollscoil na hÉireann,Maigh Nuad monatóireacht ar ábhar agus ar chaighdeán scrúduithe TEG.

Bíonn scrúduithe ar siúl in Ollscoil na hÉireann, Maigh Nuad uair amháin sa bhliain, i mí Aibreáin nó i mí na Bealtaine
agus mí na Nollag. Beidh scrúduithe ar fáil in ionaid eile in 2008: Gaillimh, Ciarraí agus Dún na nGall,
ag brath ar an éileamh. Tá tuilleadh eolais mar gheall ar TEG ar fáil ar www.teg.ie nó cuir glaoch ar 01 7083737

As Irish classes commence again across the country, it's clear that new year’s resolutions are a priority for everyone and it seems that there are more classes available now than ever and a wide range of classes from beginners to advanced are available.

It's also noteworthy this year that classes are being organised that are suitable for the European Certificate in Irish.
Yes! You can attain a qualification in Irish anywhere in the country without attending University or a third level institution.

TEG is the first and only system of certification for adult learners of Irish. Similar systems have already been developed for the majority of other European languages.

The different levels in TEG are based on the Common European Framework for Languages: Learning, Teaching and Assessment. This system helps learners to plan their study and to get recognition for the progress that they have made. Ionad na dTeangacha in NUI Maynooth monitors the content and standard of the TEG examinations.

The examinations are held once a year in NUI Maynooth, in April or May and December. It is expected that the examinations will also be held in other locations in 2008: Galway,Kerry and Donegal, depending on demand.

Clár Fullbright ag dul ó neart go neart!

Fullbright Programme Goes from Strength to Strength

D’fhógair an tAire Gnóthaí Pobail, Tuaithe agus Gaeltachta, Éamon Ó Cuív T.D., an tseachtain seo caite go bhfuil maoiniú curtha ar fáil aige don Fulbright Commission, an clár oifigiúil malartaithe oideachais idir
Rialtas na hÉireann agus na Stáit Aontaithe, le haghaidh cúntóirí teagaisc teanga sa Ghaeilge ón tír seo a cheapadh
in institiúidí tríú leibhéal sna Stáit Aontaithe.

Tá maoiniú de suas le Eur660,000 á chur ar fáil ó Chiste na Gaeilge thar tréimhse trí bliana acadúla chun leanúint ar aghaidh
leis na cláir Fulbright agus scoláire Gaeilge Fulbright a fhostú. Is é an sprioc atá ag an gClár Fulbright FLTA (Foreign Language Teaching Assistants Programme) ná teagasc na dteangacha eachtrannacha a neartú i gcoláistí agus in ollscoileanna mórthimpeall na Stát Aontaithe. Tugann an clár FLTA deiseanna acadúla agus teagaisc ar leith dóibh siúd atá rannpháirteach sa scéim.

Is deis iontach é dóibh siúd a labhraíonn Gaeilge dul thar lear agus í a labhairt i gcomhthéacs úrnua ach fós beidh tairbhe ag baint leis do chainteoirí thar lear agus don Ghaeltacht chomh maith, de réir dealraimh.

Chuir Liam Ó Cuinneagáin, stiúrthóir Oideas Gael fáilte roimh an maoiniú agus dúirt sé "Cuirfidh an cuidiú seo go mór le deiseanna foghlama Gaeilge in Ollscoileanna i Meiriceá rud a mheallfaidh na mic léinn agus daoine fásta eile thall teacht chun na Gaeltachta le leanúint leis an staidéar".

Mar sin tá Coimisiún Fullbright in Éirinn ag glacadh le hiarratais faoi láthair dá Damhachtainí Gaeilge 2008-2009.

Tá dhá chatagóir ann:
Ar dtús tá Cúntóireachtaí Múinteoireachta Teangacha Iasachta ar fáil le neartú a dhéanamh ar mhúineadh na Gaeilge i gcoláistí agus in ollscoileanna sna Stáit aontaithe agus le deis a sholáthar do mhúinteoirí atá ann cheana féin agus le barr feabhais a chur ar scileanna múinteoireachta

Ina theannta sin, tá Dámhachtainí Scoláire le Gaeilge ar fáil a tugann deis d'iarratasóirí léachtóireacht nó taighde a dhéanamh ar feadh 4-9 mí in institiúid aitheanta acadúil sna Stáit Aontaithe

Más spéis leat iarratas a chur isteach ar na damhachtainí nó b'fhéidir go mbeadh spéis ag daoine ó do cheantarsa ann
tá tuilleadh eolais ar fáil ar www.fullbright.ie

The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív T.D., announced last week that he has provided funding
to the Fulbright Commission, the official educational exchange programme between the Irish Government and the United States,
to appoint a number of Irish language assistant tutors from Ireland to third level institutions in the United States.

Funding of up to Eur660,000 is being provided from Ciste na Gaeilge for the period of three academic years to continue with the Fulbright programme and to appoint a Fulbright Scholar.

The aim of the FLTA Programme is to reinforce the teaching of foreign languages in colleges and universities throughout the United States by providing speakers of the foreign language as tutors in participating Universities.

The FLTA Programme provides participants of the scheme with unique academic and teaching opportunities.

This is a great opportunity for those who speak Irish to go abroad and speak the language in a new context and yet still is advantageous to Irish speakers abroad and for the Gaeltacht as well.

Liam Ó Cuinneagáin, the director of Oideas Gael welcomed the funding stating "This funding will greatly increase the educational opportunities to learn Irish in America which will encourage students and other adults in the US to visit the Gaeltacht to continue  with their studies.

As well as this, The Fullrbight Commission is accepting applications for Irish language Awards 2008-2009.

There are two categories available:

Firstly, Foreign language tutorships: to strengthen the teaching of Irish in Colleges and Universities in the United States
and to provide an opportunity for teachers to improve their teaching skills and to expand their knowledge of the society and
culture of the United States knowledge that they can draw on when they return to Ireland.

As well as this they are accepting applications for Irish language Scholar Awards to promote the Irish language and Irish
culture providing applicant with the opportunity to lecture or undertake research for 4-9 months in a recognised academic institution in the United States.

If you are interested in the Awards, or maybe someone in your area might have an interest, you can find out more on www.fullbright.ie

Get your skates on ladies!

If we have a hundred things to do we have a hundred days to do them

Go n-éirí an bóthar leat
may the road rise with you

Seosaimhín Ní Chéide

Seosaimhín Ní Chéide

1.Cad is ainm duitse agus cárb as thú, cé leis a bhfuil tú ag craoladh?

Seosaimhín Ní Chéide an t-ainm atá orm. As Cnoc a dTua i gCasla ó dhúchas mé ach tá mé i mo chónaí sa Sruthán ar an gCeathrú Rua anois agus tá mé ag craoladh le RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.

2.Cé chomh fada is atá tú ag craoladh i nGaeilge?

Thosaigh mé ag craoladh ar dtús i 2004 ag láithriú cláir ceoil agus ó shin  láithrigh mé ‘Foinn na Nollag’, ‘Ceol na nUasal’, ‘Tús Trátha’, ‘Nead na Fuiseoige’, ‘Mozart agus na Cumadóirí Móra’ agus  ‘An Nóta Clasaiceach’, chomh maith le ‘Géill Slí ar Anocht FM’. Chaith mé tréimhse ag soláthar mír sheachtainiúil don chlár irise ‘Iris Aniar’ agus ag cur pacáistí rialta i dtoll a chéile don chlár ‘Cúrsaí an Lae’. Chaith mé seal ag réiteach míreanna don chlár ‘Bí Ann’ i sceideal an tSamhraidh dhá bhliain ó shin. Nuair a tháinig an clár don óige ‘i-Club’ ar an aer, thosaigh mé ag obair mar thuairisceoir i dtosach báire agus ó Mheán Fómhair na bliana seo caite, is mé atá ag láithriú an chláir sin.

3.Céard é an difríocht is mó dar leat idir craoladh I nGaeilge agus I mBéarla?
Níl aon dabht faoi ach go bhfuil sé i bhfad níos deacra craoladh i nGaeilge. Tá an domhain mór ar fáil do na meáin Bhéarla ach is minic atá ar chraoltóirí atá ag obair i saol na Gaeilge dul ag cuardach Gaeilgeóirí...dúshlán breise do chraoltóirí Gaeilge!!!. Chomh maith leis sin is minic Gaeilgeóirí cúthalach tabhairt faoi agallamh i nGaeilge muna bhfuil siad ag úsáid na teanga ó lá go lá.

4.Cé hé nó hí an aoí is mó a bhfuil fonn ort agallamh a chuir air nó uirthi i nGaeilge?

Ba bhreá liom agallamh a chuir ar Dr Mc Dreamy ón tsraith teilifíse ‘Greys Anatomy’ dá mbeadh sé ag dul thar an tairseach!

5.Céard é an clár raidió is fearr leatsa?

Is breá liom an clár ‘Árd Tráthnóna’ a chraoltar ar RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta le Máirtín Tom Sheáinín. Bíonn ábhair spéisiúla le cloisteáil ar an gclár i gcónaí.

6.Cérbh é nó í an aoí is fearr a bhí ar do chlár raidió?

Tá an oiread aoíanna den scoth tar éis a bheith ar an i-Club, ní féidir liom aon duine amháin a roghnú. Tá ár dtuairisceóirí iontacha Pádraig Ó Sé agus Dónall Mac Ruairí agus ár léirtheóir bhreá Bríd Ní Chualáin ag faire amach i gcónaí do gach uile scéal más mór nó beag é ó cheann ceann na tíre agus muid ar an i-Club ag fáiltiú i gcónaí roimh scéalta ón dream óg.

Is féidir teagmháil a dhéanamh linn ar an i-Club ag iclub@rte.ie nó iclub.bebo.com. Ar an bhfón ag 091-506677 nó ar an téacs 51553 agus ó thuaisceart Éireann 80889. Craoltar an clár gach  trathnóna Aoine ar RTÉ Raidió na Gealtachta ag 17.08

7.Céard é spreagadh is mó duitse I mbun craoladh?
Scoth chraoltóirí RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta a n-éiríonn leo gach cineál scéal a thabhairt leo is cuma cén t-ábhar, bíodh sé tromchúiseach nó spraoiúil.

What’s your name, where are you from and who are you broadcasting with?

Seosaimhín Ní Chéide is my name I am originally from Cnoc a dTua, Casla but I am now living in An Sruthán, An Cheathrú rua, Co Galway and I am broadcasting with RTÉ  Raidió na Gaeltachta.

How long are you broadcasting in Irish?

I began broadcasting in early 2004 presenting music programmes and from there on I have presented 'Foinn na Nollag', 'Ceol na nUasal', 'Tús Trátha', 'Nead na Fuiseaoga', 'Mozart agus na Cumadóirí Móra' and 'An Nóta Clasaiceach' along with ‘Geill Slí ar Anocht FM’.  I spent some time researching topics for the programme ‘Iris Aniar’ and was involved in organising and compiling regular suitable material for the programme ‘Cúrsaí an Lae’

During the summer months two years ago I was involved in preparing material for the programme‘Bí Ann’.  When the new youth programme ‘i-Club’came on air I began as a reporter but as from September last year I am now presenting 'i-Club'

What is the biggest difference, do you think between broadcasting in Irish and in English?

There is no doubt about it, it’s much harder to broadcast through the Irish language. The world is your oyster when you are working with the English language however Irish language speakers are harder to come by and need to be sought!
Which creates a greater challenge for Irish language broadcasters!!!
Also Irish speakers are often shy and do not like to carry out interview  if they do not get the opportunity to speak the Irish language on a regular basis.

Who would be the one guest you would like to have on your programme?

I’d love to interview Dr. Mc Dreamy from the television series ‘Greys Anatomy’ If he was passing!!!!!!

What is your favourite radio programme?

I am a huge fan of ‘Árd Trathnóna’ which is broadcasted on RTÉ Radió na Gaeltachta and presented by Mairtin Tom Sheáinín.  This programme covers very many interesting topics.

Who was the best  guest you ever had on your programme?

There have been so many great guests on ‘i-Club’ that I cannot pick out any individual.  We have such brillant reporters such as Pádraig Ó Sé and and Dónall Mac Ruairí and our   great producer Bríd Ní Chualáin who are always on the look out for great stories from all over the country be thay big or small.  Here on 'i-Club' we always welcome new stories from the younger listerners.

We can be contacted in i-Club at iclub@rte.ie or iclub.bebo.com.
Or contact us by telephone at 091-  506677 or  text 51533 and for listners in Northern Ireland 80889.  ‘i-Club’ is broadcasted on RTÉ Radió na Gaeltachta every Friday night at 17.08

What inspired you to take up broadcasting as a career?

I am inspired by the best broadcasters here in RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta they always manage to cover every type of story no matter what topic be it serious or humorous.

Nollaig mhór mhaith do TG4

A Good Christmas for TG4

Nollaig mhór mhaith a bhí ann do TG4 de réir na bhfigiúirí féachana ó AGB Nielsen Media Research, an miosúr oifigiúil teilifíse in Éirinn. Léiríonn na torthaí go bhfuair an stáisiún Gaeilge an dara sciar
seachtainiúil féachana ab fhearr riamh, oiread go leith chomh hard leis an meánsciar seachtainiúil i rith na bliana.

Thuill TG4 sciar féachana 4.7% i rith sheachtain na Nollag 2007, (méadú ón 4.4% a bhí aige don tseachtain chéanna i 2006).    Bhí an fhéachaint Nollag 2007 ar TG4 níos fearr  ná 2006 do na príomhlaethanta ar fad -  Oíche Nollag (4.3%), Lá Nollag (6.3%), Lá ‘le Stiofáin (5.5%), Oíche Chinn Bhliana (4.3%) agus Lá Caille (5.9%).

Ar na cláir is mó a thuill lucht féachana do TG4 i dtráth na Nollag bhí,
Na Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem, (150,000) an clár damhsa ar an sean-nós, Steip (130,000) agus Jack Charlton clár ceiliúrtha ar iarbhainisteoir sacair na hÉireann.

[Ar Lean]

The holiday season certainly brought good cheer for TG4 - in the guise of the viewing figures reported by AGB Nielsen Media Research, the official measurement for TV viewing in Ireland.  Nielsen data confirms that TG4 had an excellent Christmas, achieving a national share of 4.7% during Christmas week. This figures represents TG4's second best week ever.

Christmas is widely regarded as the most competitive period in the television market. TG4 was the fifth most watched channel in Ireland during Christmas week 2007, ahead of UTV, BBC Two and Channel 4. This was the highest ranking ever for the channel.

The TG4 programme with the highest audience over Christmas was a Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem Concert which attracted an audience of 150,000. The continuing popularity of sean-nós dancing was evidenced by the 130,000 viewers that watched the Steip programme and the profile of legendary Irish international soccer manager, Jack Charlton, also proved an audience-winner for TG4 on Christmas Day.
